GOOD NEWS FROM PLANET EARTH – Where do we get clean energy from?
Climate crisis, gas crisis, social inequality – the world needs clean, safe and affordable energy. Today, there are increasingly original ideas for using green energy in ways that benefit everyone.
A German agricultural engineer is turning kitchen waste into combustible gas – using simple biogas plants that are sold and operated in Africa. This is helping women in Senegal to become small business owners. Thanks to a biogas plant, wind turbines and a solar park, the Bavarian village community of Großbardorf produces more heat and electricity than it consumes. A cooperative in the Netherlands is converting a conventional solar park into an ‘energy garden’ – turning the site into a destination for local residents and tourists. In Schleswig-Holstein, researchers are using cameras and artificial intelligence to make wind turbines safer for white-tailed eagles – promoting wind energy without threatening endangered bird species. And in the Indian village of Kotabagh, solar-powered lanterns are saving lives by protecting people from tiger attacks at night.
