The Heart of Münster

It’s Münster’s meeting place, front garden, sailing venue and open-air gallery. In short, Lake Aa is the heart of Münster – and the people of Münster love it. Planned as a concrete retention reservoir for rainwater, it’s been lovingly adopted by the city’s inhabitants. It’s where they go partying, jogging, skating and sailing – right in the middle of the Westphalian city. Nearly everyone in Münster has a personal story that links them to the “Puddle“, as the sailors of the city call their waterway. One of them is a very special love story: when a swan named Petra fell in love with a swan-shaped pedal boat. Lake Aa – where the heart beats faster in North Rhine-Westphalia.
